pH is measured on a scale of 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral The pH scale shows how acidic or alkaline a tissue or solution is. Lower pH numbers are found in solutions where there is high acidity, high pH numbers are present when there is greater alkalinity–more basic. The pH of the urine can vary from 4.0 (very acidic or “acidosis”) to 8.0 (very alkaline), and is based on how acid or alkaline the extracellular fluids are in your body.1 The standard American diet, pharmaceutical drugs, environmental toxicants, obesity and other common lifestyle issues are all associated with metabolic acidosis.2, 3 Acidic urine, a reflection of an acidic state in the body is associated with several health challenges.
